Guest Blogger: Alex Watson on John GallianoMarch 22, 2011

John Galliano has recently shocked the press and public with his extremely troubling anti-Semitic views. With video footage of his racist behavior in La Perle Bar, a Paris restaurant, the inappropriateness can easily be discerned. A quick cell phone video of a nearby individual has been the cause for the danger of Galliano losing his career. In addition of being subsequently arrested, he is bound to feel the threat of suffering from disownment from the public and clients. At 50 years old, he has obviously worked hard to create these connections with people in the fashion industry, and now risks losing all that he has achieved. Celebrity Natalie Portman has come forth with statements, challenging his views and announcing that she will no longer associate with him. She even switched her designer choice last minute for the Oscars, from Galliano to Rodarte. Christian Dior, his employer for 13 years, has also made the choice of firing him from the position of Fashion director for next week. These unmerciful decisions make one think about the impact one’s personal life has on their business life. Apparently in the fashion industry, personal and business lives are inseparable. Dior has an interesting position on this particular anti-Semitic situation. Christian Dior himself served as an army officer for a year until France’s surrender. As Yves Saint Laurent served as Dior’s successor after his death, he ironically served for France’s army during WW2. It then becomes easy for one to see why they fired him for his racial views on Jewish people. Continuing to deny any anti-Semitic behavior, John Galliano will remain in hot water while the possibility of his actions are scorned. Much like Charlie Sheen and Mel Gibson, statements in the press can end your career.

Feeling under the weather now that summer has passed us by? Well, you can keep your spirits up with a personal commitment to a healthy and well balanced lifestyle through this fall and winter season.

I have always believed and sworn by a healthy diet as a means to a better life. But in addition to eating well and excercising, I have come upon a line of amazing products produced by a company called Isagenix. For the past couple of years, my family has been ordering from this line, and we are all enjoying the results.

What you’re saying about yourselfMay 3, 2010

It has been said many, many times, over and over again. Others will take you as seriously as you take yourself. How you treat yourself, how you groom yourself, how you dress yourself, how you respect yourself, will speak volumes to those around you. And trust me, if you show everyone around you that you don't give a rip, then they won't either.

Here's what Randall S. Hansen, Ph.D., and Katharine Hansen, Ph.D., had to say about looking your best with regard to making a lasting positive impression:

"In categorizing people, we all take shortcuts, and first impressions about people often turn into long-term perceptions and reputations — which are good for people who make positive first impressions (the halo effect), but bad for people who make negative first impressions."

So get into the know-how and invest some time and effort into producing a strong, lasting impression. It will serve you well, you can be sure of it.
